Softness

mouse-over for before view. Sorry it’s been such a long time since our last post! We’ve both been busy with more important things like holidays:-) I have spent a lovely 10 days on the tiny Pacific Island of Niue, it’s such a relaxing and laid back kind of place and I’d love to return some […]

Pink roses

These Clair Matin roses are looking particularly beautiful in the garden at the moment in their second flush of flowers for the season so I couldn’t resist picking a few for some photos and also to bring some of their colour and fragrance indoors. I kept the processing fairly light this time to allow […]

Windmills

Winchelsea is a secluded and hard to get to English channel resort, nestled between its more famous and trendy neighbours of Hastings and Dungeness, so its still delightfully unspoiled. I only came across it after visiting the more cultured hilltop town of Rye, with its illustrious dead writers, the famous American Henry James and […]

Thom Cross – Standing on the Edge of the World

Yet another Flypaper product to share, this time an indie pop CD/EP! Several months ago I was contacted by Thom, originally a New Zealander, and now a London based musician who wanted to use one or two of my images, naturally I was delighted to help, and sorted him out with this and another image, […]

Girl with teddies

In England I bought a full size double hospital X-ray light box from Ebay, cost me next to nothing, but boy did I get burnt for the extra baggage on the flight home! So, I’ve been going through the old negatives, and came across this shoot with my niece, proudly showing her party outfit in […]

Walking the dog

At this time of the year when our evenings are long and it doesn’t get dark until around 10pm so we often go for a walk on the beach after dinner. We weren’t alone at the beach this night, as well as the few walkers, runners and dogs there was also a solitary sea-lion basking in […]

Sorbet

A flower again, this is an astrantia bloom that I picked on one of my walks and brought home to photograph indoors, it being too windy here at the moment for macros outside. The pink you see in the background is the roses in the blue and white jug from one of my previous photos. […]

Nostalgia

Cecille Brunner is such a pretty little rose, I have the bush variety and it’s lovely at this time of the year. My mother used to have the climbing version in her old garden, it was a huge bush which scrambled up an old plum tree and was smothered in blossom and seemed to grow […]

Five

Another shot taken on a walk on the lovely Doctors Point Beach just to the north of Dunedin. These same people appear in a similar shot but I processed this one quite differently which shows how a different textures can give the same scene a whole new look. As well as some Flypaper Textures, I […]

Faded Memories

These half dead flowers are the remainder from an earlier photo session but they caught my eye when I was trying out my new 50mm lens. Focusing at f1.4 is very hit and miss I can see even with auto focus 🙂Processed with Flypaper Textures Tarte Tatin @ Soft light 36%and Pompeii Stucco @ screen […]

The Happy Couple (adding a vignette using render lighting in Photoshop)

About a month ago I visited a local beach with my son, intending to take photos of him but when we looked over the sand dunes we were surprised to see this pair of NZ Sea Lions a short distance away. Naturally I rushed back to the car to exchange my short lens for a […]

red box

Back in early July we made a special trip to the beach at sunset just to photograph the full moon rising over the Mediterranean. The light was superbly opalescent, and I was lucky, as I captured several nice images as well as the later moonrise. This is one, a huge red container, not sure why it […]

Leave only Footprints…

Hot off the camera….Taken on a lovely walk on the beach this evening -there was some dramatic storm light and the sea looked amazing and even if my photos didn’t do the scene justice, it was great just to be there. This one looked okay before but I thought I’d see what I could do […]

Flypaper Textures video tutorials

We were contacted by the lovely Kayla from Digiscrap101 a while back, she wanted to do a tutorial using our textures, and of course we were happy to oblige. Here they are, hot off the press and it’s very easy to follow.Enjoy:-) Photoshop CS3 Video Photoshop Elements Video:

Clematis

I put my wonderful but neglected macro lens on this morning and went for a quick expedition round my garden. This Clematis montana is in full bloom, and the flowers were sparkling with droplets after overnight rain. I processed this one by duplicating the background layer and then blurring it using the lens blur filter, […]

Pines in the mist

A rare misty day in our part of the world. These mists are so far and few I have to dash out with my camera! This picture was taken on a strange atmospheric hill that sticks out of the old sea marshes, or ‘Etang’ in French. It now rises out of a sea of golden vineyards. On top […]

Family Walk

Another day another beach! I took this last weekend when we went for a quick walk at Doctors Point near Dunedin. Since my family isn’t cooperative when it comes to photos I have to make the most of any opportunities when it comes to getting some human interest in my photos, taking photos of distant […]

Flying Lessons (or Gull ballet)

Another from a visit to the beach the other day!Quite a bit of work went into this one to get the “look” I wanted.First I duplicated the background and blurred it using a lens blur, and using a layer mask removed some of the blur from the central portion of the photo. The textures I used […]

Last snow

For this misty winter farm-track scene I used;Apple blush @ Vivid light – Opacity 37% Fill 34%Grosgrain @ Hard Light – Opacity 27%, Fill 28%Caramel soft @ Opacity 86%, Fill 100%

Stormy Sea

Anyone who follows my photos will know I love walking on the beach and we’re so lucky here to have so many readily accessible beaches nearby. This was taken on a stormy day back in May when there was a dramatic big surf and stormy sky. The original photo included the top of a small […]

visitor from the past

A simple use of Flypapers Raw Linen in full blur mode.Blend hard light Opacity was 100%, fill Opacity @ 94% Necropolis texture was used to finish.Blend soft light 48% and fill opacity @ 57%. Just these two textures were used to create an almost ‘sepia effect’ of a visitor, perhaps from the past.

Fly (with texture recipe)

I took this beach scene on a wintry beach walk a couple of months ago and rediscovered it earlier when I was hunting for a landscape to process.I like my skies big, so I did a little cloning in of new sky at the top….thankfully my rough cloning has been covered with texture:-) Umm…and the […]

Dragonfly on the sand dunes

To enliven this dragonfly in front of an ‘out of focus’ sand dune,I simply added several layers of flypaper’s ‘Nora batty’At various mixes.

Golden Daisies (with texture recipe)

I “played” with this photo for hours before coming up with this and thought you might like to know my “recipe”. Though of course you’ll have to treat the instructions as a guide as no two photos react in the same way when treated with texture. First I duplicated my background and did a little […]
