Tintype Edges

Something a bit different from me this time! You see,  every few weeks a group I am a member of over on Flickr runs a fun photo challenge where you’re given three elements and have to create a new photo, it’s in the Utata group for anyone interested and the challenge is called Iron Photographer, the elements are often very random but it’s great fun…I’m an Iron Photographer addict 🙂  This time around the elements were feet and a digging tool with antique processing. I thought to my myself, our Flypaper Tintypes will be perfect for the antique element, et voila!

Martello Tower

Martello Tower

his Martello tower is the most northerly of the original remaining 103 towers erected and is situated in Aldeburgh on England’s east coasts Suffolk county, built around 200 years ago to defend England from Napoleon, for which happily they were never needed. But later used in WW2 for various gun postings.

Pear tintype

Another addition to my collection of pear photos.  They’re such photogenic fruit and especially this variety with its elongated shape, a Beurre Bosc in fact. The photo was taken with the lensbaby edge 80, a wonderful lens I must add! Perfect for still-lifes like this one and lensbaby shots have a natural affinity to textures.

Another image from the grounds of Leeds Castle in Kent, I came across this interesting themed hillside camp-site situated beyond their large vineyard which can be glimpsed in the background, and found they’re now running a new Glamping site!
All these lovely fresh new tents with their different primary colours were glowing in the morning sun, however, some were occupied so I didn’t like to get too close!

If like us, you’re just back from holidaying  you’ll also have reams of new images to process. So with this in mind we’ve come up with a new idea, to help you on your way we’ll give you a head start with our Nik Color Pro free Fly Preset download, just hit this LINK and you’ll have the preset I created yesterday when I processed this English holiday picture, it’s a good all-round preset, and it compliments our Flypaper Tin edges beautifully. If you guys approve and we get some nice feedback, we’ll then be encouraged to share more of our Nik Presets!

Japonica

Japonica

This was a quick shot I took yesterday on a shelf in our glasshouse, I put an old tray behind the shelf as a backdrop, gathered some vine prunings and then picked a twig of japonica from the shrub growing nearby and voila!

Owl Service

Owl Service

Its like Christmas even in high summer when you come across an old image that’s worth processing!
Happened to me here whilst going through old external hard drives. I shot this back in the winter of 2008/9, whilst exploring our local ancient graveyard in Beziers City center after first moving here from a nearby village.

Vintage Hydrangea

Vintage Hydrangea

I am enjoying the versatility of our new Flypaper metallics, I love the light metallic sheen that some of them give to photos depending on the blending mode and opacity of the texture layer, this adds a whole new dimension. In this shot of a single hydrangea floret on an old mirror, I combined the metallics with one of our tintype edges, they work so well together!

A recipe for this one was requested by our friend Ann over on flickr and we were happy to oblige. As you can see the image started out as a scan once again, you can also see how dusty my scanner is at the moment...it all adds to the texture! I started by...
