Welcome to our lockdown created Impressionist Painterly Texture pack! We created these real-life oil painted textures over several months, shooting them in natural daylight or ‘en plein air’ to get the most out of this oil paint effect. The impressionists also worked during the evenings for ‘effets de soir’ producing richly shadowed, moody effects using visible spontaneous brushstrokes to convey an atmospheric impression of changing natural daylight.
These innovative artists went against their Victorian contemporaries and did not tend to use transparent glazes or paint on traditional brown gazed canvas, preferring white bases for their paintings. We have followed their example and created this pack in the same spirit and we hope you have as much fun using them as we did in creating them, without the oil paint smell! 😉 Incidentally they were also the first real painting movement to work from Photographs, many of the most famous impressionists were inspired by photography and so we’ve now come full circle and we’re incorporating brush strokes in our photo art!
This Impressionist painterly texture pack was designed to add a subtle or strong, mostly oil painting effect on canvas to your fine art photography or to use as overlays or backdrops. The brushstrokes are mostly in the impasto technique, much favoured by the Impressionist movement. Scroll down to see the textures in use.
To make the most out of these painterly textures we suggest golden hour shot images but they’ll work well on pretty much any image. This is our biggest ever pack with a whopping 57 rectangular textures, made in minimum sized 4000 x 6000 pixels and are at industry printing standard 300ppi.
All our textures can be used in any editing programme that supports the use of layers, Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Gimp etc You can also use our textures on your iPad, Android and smartphones if you have a suitable app installed. You can only use them in Lightroom if you use an add-on that allows Lightroom to use layers such as Perfect Layers.
