It’s been a while since we’ve had some floral prettiness here on the blog!  This was taken in our New Zealand spring a few months back. The flowers grow over the fence just down the hill from where I live and I couldn’t resist picking a sprig while passing, I’ve no idea what they are but they’re a beautiful subject, especially when paired with one of my little oriental styled teacups.

Christmas briefly came early for me! The lens that I had ordered as my Christmas present finally arrived yesterday, and I couldn’t resist a quick play before I put it away, just to check that it worked okay 🙂 The lens is a fabulous Sony/Zeiss sonnar 55mm f1.8 for my favourite  little Sony A7 camera and after my quick session with it, I can say it’s a keeper. The sharpness and clarity are wonderful and it produces some beautiful bokeh. I’m looking forward to Christmas!

Adding to our best selling first two preset Color Efex packs we now proudly launch our much requested Analog Preset pack!
We’ve been quietly making and using these for several months and so it’s been frustrating not being able to share many of our recipes where we’ve used them until we finally launched this pack!

When I’m feeling a little uninspired photography-wise I tend to turn to subjects I love, if not flowers then books and I can never have enough books. These old beauties were taken with the macro lens, another of my favourite things! I love the different view of the world you get when you shoot macro, all those small details you miss at first glance.

Albatross

Albatross

At Taiaroa Head at the entrance to Otago Harbour is a breeding colony of Northern Royal Albatross, the only such colony on inhabited mainland. These huge birds which have a wing-span of up to 3 metres, nest on the hills overlooking the harbour and if you’re lucky you can see them in flight, windy and stormy days are the best for this as they launch themselves off the cliff and rely on updraughts to get themselves airborne

Tin Rose

I never get sick of flowers or taking photos of them but sometimes you have to put your thinking cap on try and come up with a new way of shooting them. I’d taken some small props to our country hut a couple of weeks back and when I had a few moments spare time in between gardening tasks, had a quick photo shoot using what I had available, in this case an old tin, old mirror and a rose (which was losing its petals) from the garden.
